It was a day like so many others before it. I walked into work, sat at my computer, checked my emails, and started my day. Then, about thirty minutes into my day, I see co-workers heading toward the conference room. “What’s going on?” I asked one of them as they walked by my office. “We’re not sure, but it sounds pretty bad.” Surprised and perplexed, I followed them to the conference room.
When we arrived, there was a visual I will never forget on the screen. The World Trade Center’s North Tower was on fire! At first, it appeared to be an accident. A plane had flown straight into the building. We didn’t know what to make of it.
Then suddenly, a second plane hit the World Trade Center’s South Tower. At that moment, we realized this was no longer an accident. Something terrible, much more sinister, was happening. Sure enough, another plane slammed into the Pentagon shortly after that. Concerned, frightened, and confused, we watched the Twin Towers go down one after the other.
In the end, nearly 3,000 people died after Al Qaeda terrorists hijacked four planes and used them as destructive weapons. This horror against humanity was the manifestation of pure evil. For those who never experienced true evil in the world, this was a glimpse of evil personified.
As a result, I had many friends take up arms and head out to fight the enemy. What ensued afterward was years of loss of life trying to combat this evil. Many honorable men and women died that day, and after that, many sacrificed their lives fighting against this evil abroad. We should be ever so grateful.
Those events of 9/11 re-introduced and reminded us of how evil exists. It’s also a reminder of how, today, we must continue to fight against the evils of this world. Whether through the indoctrination of innocent lives intending to devalue them or taking their life before it starts, we must battle against evil. Evil does not take a break, and neither should we.
We must stay vigilant and engaged, taking back stolen ground and showing the world that true peace and love only come from God. Scripture reminds us that we must never forget to defend the oppressed, downtrodden, and silenced. Like Christ, we are to live sacrificially for others and be the world’s hope, showing others that biblical manhood is freeing, empowering, and life-saving.
