May I have your attention!
It seems that lately, my sons have gotten into the bad habit of going to bed late, causing difficulty in waking them up for school. So then the other day, in jest, I told them I was going to buy a megaphone to assist me. “You’re crazy, dad. Why would you waste money on that?” one of them asked. “If it will help me get you guys moving, and out of bed, it will be well worth it.”
Sure enough, I went online and found a great deal. However, as I usually don’t do things in a small manner, I decided to buy one larger than my head’s size. When it arrived, it was much larger than I anticipated, but I thought, “the bigger, the better.”
The following day I flipped on the switch, raised the volume, and gave a hefty “Can I have your attention! Can I have your attention! Good morning, good morning, good morning. It’s about that time!” Then, annoyed, they threw their blankets over their heads and covered their ears. “We’re up! We’re up.” they kept saying.
It seems the message was loud and clear because the very next day, they were up and ready to go just by me turning on the lights. One of them was even up before I came into the room. So, with the mission accomplished, I returned the megaphone, but with the condition, I would rebuy it if needed. They laughed and told me it wasn’t necessary as all I needed to do now was turn on the lights.
My crazy story reminds me how sometimes God needs to get our attention. Sometimes it’s in a loud way because we’re not doing what he asked us to or doing what we shouldn’t. Sometimes however, God also whispers. In both instances, we should listen closely to what He’s saying because, He always desires what’s best for us. One of the best ways to hear God’s voice is reading His word.

And he arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Then Eli perceived that the Lord was calling the boy. 9 Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down, and if he calls you, you shall say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant hears.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
