Yesterday I decided to go high-speed go cart racing at K1 Speed with my sons and a friend. My friend is a licensed and certified amateur race car driver. His specialty is Porsche and clocks an average of 150-175 mph on the track. As with many things, we men tend to get competitive very fast. Before getting on the track he told me, “stay behind me and learn something.”.
On our first race he started ahead and I hung back with one of my sons and took it easy. Of course he won. For the next race, they positioned me to start first and my buddy behind me. As I took off I thought to myself “I need to hold the lead”. As we banked corners and flew down the straight aways I held my line tight. First he tired “bumping” me out of the way to crowd in and distract me. It didn’t work so he kept coming up behind and ridding the rear of my car.
On a few occasions he tried undercutting me on turns but I kept making the car “wide”. I managed to hold the lead all the way and boxed him out of taking the lead but it was a instant battle. Afterwards the attendant told us not was an exciting are to watch he said “You guys definitely know what you’re doing. You guys know how to drive.”
This reminded me of how we constantly have to fend off the devil and his constant attacks. He’s relentless and never eases up. We’ve always got to be looking over our shoulder to see what’s coming up from behind and maintain the lead at all times.
