Too many of us are quick to dismiss ourselves as weak, insecure, or just make excuses for our actions. I’ve seen countless men claim their struggle is valid because they’ve “Been this way for so long, I need time to change”. For as many men claim that excuse, I’ve also witnessed men be transformed overnight. They’ve gone from heavy addictions, dangerous habits and lifetimes of destructive behaviors to redeemed and restored in an instant. So what’s the difference between these two men?
The difference is their belief and conviction in knowing that Jesus is enough. In Luke 23:39-43 we read about two men hanging on each side of Jesus. One of them believed and was convicted of his life while the other was mocking and unrepantant because he did not truly believe Jesus could do what he claimed or claimed to be. One was ushered into heaven while the other into despair. So here is the dilemma, some of us believe and have given our lives to Jesus but are unwilling to fully come down off that cross.
I speak about these things because I too once lived that life. I had given my life to Christ but still floundered around with worldly things. After a few years of flopping around and destroying my testimony and leaving a path of destruction, the Lord told me “enough”. Enough of living a lie. Enough believing the world had something better to offer. Enough of believing the lie I didn’t have the power or self-discipline to change. The message was clear, enough is enough.
Christ was more than enough to transform me, fill me, empower me, guide me and meet all my needs. It was only when I fully submitted and realized he would be enough that I said “enough” as well. My transformation has been anything but linear. It looks more like a mosaic which when finished, will be God’s work of art.
Christ is more than enough and 2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us of that.
